BACKGROUND Childhood externalizing and internalizing behaviors have been associated with injury risk in childhood and adolescence, but it is unknown whether this association continues to hold in adulthood. We examined whether externalizing and internalizing behaviors expressed in childhood predict injuries in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. METHODS The participants were from the 1958 British birth cohort (n = 11,537). Problem behaviors were assessed by teachers at ages 7 and 11…

Youth Injuries as a Function of Sex, Life History, and Neighborhood Safety
From infancy until early adulthood, men have higher mortality rates due to external causes than do women. Human evolutionary behavioral scientists have framed this sex difference in pre-adulthood

TLDR
It is suggested that childhood behavioral problems have long-term associations with fertility behavior over the life course, including earlier transition to parenthood, lower probability of normative family formation later in adulthood, and higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Childhood behavior problems and health at midlife: 35-year follow-up of a Scottish birth cohort.
TLDR
Childhood behavior problems were associated with a series of adult health-related habits that may partially account for the link between early problem behaviors and premature mortality.
Absence of Association between Behavior Problems in Childhood and Hypertension in Midlife
TLDR
There is no association between behavior problems in childhood and hypertension in midlife in the 1958 British birth cohort, and separate analyses showed similar results for males and females.

Trajectories of Mental Health-Related Service Use Among Adolescents With Histories of Early Externalizing Problems.
Unintentional Injuries in Preschool Age Children
TLDR
It was found that ADHD symptoms were significantly higher among fathers of injured children compared with fathers of control groups, and Democratic parenting was found to correlate with higher numbers of injuries.
The association between prenatal environment and children’s mental health trajectories from 2 to 14 years
TLDR
In the Raine Study sample, children who experienced adverse prenatal environments experienced increased levels of problem behaviours in childhood, and more problematic mental health trajectories.

Both externalizing and internalizing behaviors were associated with mortality in adulthood and childhood problem behaviors are associated with increased long-term mortality risk beyond childhood and adolescence.

Driver injuries are associated with a substantial increase in disability and, also in the short term, with increases in psychological distress, which highlights the need for identifying effective strategies for the prevention of road traffic injuries as well as more effective approaches for rehabilitation of the injured.

TLDR
The long-term psychiatric outcome for adolescents with persistent or recurrent internalizing disorder was poor, whereas the outcome for those who had a single episode was better than expected.

Children with early disruptive behavior are at increased risk of unintentional injury and therefore should be considered prime candidates for injury prevention campaigns.

The subjective suffering and long-term burden to society is especially high among children with comorbid conduct and internalizing problems in childhood, and, if replicated, such findings will have important implications for future diagnostic classification systems (DSM-V).
