THE body of supporting evidence is now so large that the correspondence of crossing over and chiasma formation is widely accepted. In the fields of genetics and cytology, respectively, they are of considerable importance yet much remains unknown of the factors which govern both the formation and the distribution of chiasmata or points of crossing over.
