In an attempt to ameliorate the chemotherapy associated normal cell toxicity, in this study a known antioxidant, grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) using Chang liver cells has been used. Chang liver cells were treated in vitro with idarubicin (Ida) (30 nM) and 4-hydroxyperoxycyclophosphamide (4-HC) (1 microg/ml) with or without proanthocyanidin (25 microg/ml). The cells were grown in vitro and the growth rate of the cells were determined using MTT assay. The results showed that the GSPE… Expand
Prophylactic Efficacy of a Combination of Proanthocyanidin and Vitamin E on Hepatotoxicity Induced by Doxorubicin in Rats
TLDR
Protective efficacy of GSPE along with vitamin E in ameliorating the hepatotoxicity induced by Dox is demonstrated and it shows that it could be one approach to reduce the risk of Dox induced side effects in clin ical settings. Expand
Anticancer effects of oligomeric proanthocyanidins on human colorectal cancer cell line, SNU-C4.
AIM Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC), natural polyphenolic compounds found in plants, are known to have antioxidant and anti-cancer effects. We investigated whether the anti-cancer effects of theExpand
PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF GRAPE SEEDS PROANTHOCYANIDINS AGAINST NAPHTHALENE-INDUCED HEPATOTOXICITY IN RATS
Oxidative stress with subsequent production of reactive oxygen species has been postulated as one of the mechanisms of naphthalene toxicity. In the present study, the effect of oral administration ofExpand
Identification of components of grape powder with anti-apoptotic effects
TLDR
It is demonstrated that quercetin, epicatechin, and cyanidin are active compounds within FDGP that attenuate apoptosis, and these findings contribute to the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of anti-apoptotic and anti-oxidant effects of grape. Expand
Cytoprotective effect of a bilberry extract against oxidative damage of rat hepatocytes
Abstract The effect of a bilberry extract (BE, 25% anthocyanins) against oxidative damage in primary cultures of rat hepatocytes, induced by tert -butyl hydroperoxide and allyl alcohol, wasExpand
Proanthocyanidin from grape seeds enhances doxorubicin-induced antitumor effect and reverses drug resistance in doxorubicin-resistant K562/DOX cells.
TLDR
The results suggest that proanthocyanidin enhances doxorubicin-induced antitumor effect and reverses drug resistance, and its mechanism is attributed partially to the promotion of dox orubic in-induced apoptosis through an elevation of intracellularDoxorUBicin, and Ca2+, Mg2+ concentration, and a reduction of pH value and mitochondrial membrane potential. Lack of modulatory effect of asparagus, tomato, and grape juice on cyclophosphamide-induced genotoxicity in mice
Studies on agents that modulate carcinogen-induced genotoxic effects in experimental animals are used to assess the antimutagenic or anticarcinogenic properties of putative chemopreventive compounds.Expand
Additively Enhanced Antiproliferative Effect of Interferon Combined with Proanthocyanidin on Bladder Cancer Cells
TLDR
Findings support the notion that combination of IFN-α2b and GSP is capable of additively enhancing antiproliferative effect on T24 cells with a G1 cell cycle arrest, implying an adjuvant therapeutic modality for superficial bladder cancer. Expand
Proanthocyanidins Produce Significant Attenuation of Doxorubicin-Induced Mutagenicity via Suppression of Oxidative Stress
TLDR
It is provided for the first time that proanthocyanidins have a protective role in the abatement of doxorubicin-induced mutagenesis and cell proliferation changes in germinal cells of mice that reside, at least in part, in their radical scavengeractivity. Expand
Anticancer screening of ethanol extract from selected piperaceae family and its determination via trypan blue staining
TLDR
Viability analysis using trypan blue staining demonstrates that this type of analysis can become an alternative approach in determining cytotoxicity activity of cells in the presence of extracts. Expand

Protective effects of grape seed proanthocyanidins and selected antioxidants against TPA-induced hepatic and brain lipid peroxidation and DNA fragmentation, and peritoneal macrophage activation in mice.
TLDR
GSPE and other antioxidants provided significant protection against TPA-induced oxidative damage, with GSPE providing better protection than did other antioxidants at the doses that were employed. Expand
Smokeless tobacco, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and antioxidants in human oral keratinocytes.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that STE produces oxidative tissue damage and apoptosis, which can be attenuated by antioxidants including vitamin C, vitamin E, a combination of vitamins C plus E and GSPE, which exhibited better protection against STE than vitamins C and E, singly and in combination. Expand
