Using immunohistochemical detection of the Fos protein as a cellular marker of neuronal activation, we examined forebrain areas that may be activated upon chemical stimulation of the laryngeal opening. Anesthetized rats were subject to multiple infusions of a chemical solution into the laryngopharynx.
