Chemical modification of styrene based polymers with attaching antimicrobial 4-hydroxybenzoic acid group as a side chain

  title={Chemical modification of styrene based polymers with attaching antimicrobial 4-hydroxybenzoic acid group as a side chain},
  author={Mehrdad Mahkam},
Free radical copolymerization and cross-linking copolymerization of the 4-chloromethyl styrene (CMS) with styrene (in various mole ratios), were carried out using α,α-azobis(isobutyronitrile) AIBN as initiator and 1,4divinylbenzene (DVB) as a crosslinking agent at 70 oC. The antimicrobial 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4-HBA) was covalently attached to the obtained copolymers with replacement of all the chlorine atoms in CMS units. The copolymers, obtained in quantitative yields, were characterized by…

Modification of styrene polymer with organosilicon groups
The homopolymer of 4-chloromethylstyrene (P1) and its copolymers with styrene (in various mole ratios) were synthesized by bulk and solution free radical polymerizations, respectively, at 70 ± 1°C
Synthesis and characterization of crosslinked polyacrylates containing cubane and silyl groups
Attaching the organosilyl groups to macromolecular chains of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) should lead to important modifications of polymer properties.t-BuMe2Si and cubane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid
Regulation of Controlled Release of Ibuprofen from Crosslinked Polymers Containing Cubane as a New Crosslinking Agent
The nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug 2-(4-isobutylphenyl)-propionic acid (ibuprofen) and cubane-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (CDA) were covalently linked with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). The
Synthesis and characterization of polymers containing 4‐cyanobiphenyl‐based side groups for nonlinear optical applications, 3. Poly(p‐chloromethylstyrene) derivatives
Polylp-(4'-cyanobiphenyl-4-yloxymethyl)styrene]s (PCBMS) were prepared by chemical modification of poly(p-chloromethylstyrene) with the sodium salt of 4-cyano-4'-hydroxybiphenyl or free radical
Biocidal polymers active by contact. V. Synthesis of polysiloxanes with biocidal activity
Polysiloxanes with 3-(alkyldimethylammonio)propyl pendant groups were synthesized by quaternization of n-octyldimethylamine or n-dodecyldimethylamine with linear polysiloxanes containing
Swelling behavior and release properties of pH-sensitive hydrogels based on methacrylic derivatives
P pH-sensitive systems could be useful for preparation of a muccoadhesive system and controlled release of N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-( 4-methoxyphenol) acetamide in SGF and SIF and drug release studies showed that the increasing content of MAA in the copolymer enhances hydrolysis in SIF.
The results have shown that polyvinyl chioroacetate is an appropriate carrier for release of the drug in human conditions and is potentially useful as polymeric prodrugs.
