Rates of ATP production and protein synthesis rates were simultaneously studied using the isolated rat brain mitochondria and different types of brain polysomes (total, free, microsomal and mitochondrial membrane-bound). Protein synthesis was measured using a special reticulocyte lysate cell-free incubation medium.
