A list of 54 copepod species (Crustacea) in 23 families is presented for the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Identifications are from zooplankton samples of the Victor Hensen Expedition during December 1993 and February 1994. Samples were taken with a Bongo net (0.60 m net opening, 2.50 m net length) with 200 microns mesh size. Oblique hauls were done from the surface to the ground at a towing speed of aprox. 1 knot. 37 species (68.5%) were found in the Gulf of Nicoya, 36 in Golfo Dulce (66.6…

Diversity of the free-living marine and freshwater Copepoda (Crustacea) in Costa Rica: a review

The known diversity of marine copepods of Costa Rica is still in development and represents up to 52.6% of the total marine microcrustaceans recorded in the country.

Composition of the zooplankton community, with emphasis in copepods, in Punta Morales, Golfo De Nicoya, Costa Rica.

The dominance of crustacean larvae and icthyoplankton is an evidence of the ecological importance of the Punta Morales zone.

Monticellina (Polychaeta: Cirratulidae) from the Pacific coast of Costa Rica with descriptions of six new species

Eight species of Monticellina are described from intertidal and subtidal sites on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, six of which are new to science while M. cryptica Blake, 1996 and M. tesselata (Hartman, 1960) have been previously described from California.

Distribution and abundance of Oncaea media and O. venusta (Crustacea: Copepoda) in the Colombian pacific ocean during two periods in 2001

Factor analysis revealed negative and positive correlations among abundances and abiotic variables depending on each period, and it may be necessary to consider the different forms of O. media and O. venusta to establish the importance of phytoplankton and other organisms in their diet.

Diversity of Marine Habitats of the Caribbean and Pacific of Costa Rica

Costa Rica is privileged to have two coasts: the Caribbean coast is almost a straight line of 212 km, while the coastline along the Pacific is much more complex and substantially longer (1,254 km).

Posible efecto de El Niño en el zooplancton no gelatinoso del Golfo Dulce, Pacífico de Costa Rica, 1997-1998

The possible effect of "El Nino" in the non-gelatinous zooplankton in Golfo Dulce, Pacific coast of Costa Rica during the period of 1997-1998. Non-gelatinous zooplankton was studied in Golfo Dulce,

El Niño 1997-1998 impact on the plankton dynamics in the Gulf of Nicoya, Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

The El Niño 1997-1998 phenomenon in the plankton dynamics appears to have produced a change in the phytoplankton structure, which is higher than those found some years ago in the same zone and those reported for some places in the Caribbean.

A fjord-like tropical ecosystem, Pacific coast of Costa Rica: overview of research in Golfo Dulce

Introduction: Coastal ecosystems worldwide are under the influence of local, regional and global stressors, such as pollution, eutrophication and climate change. Golfo Dulce is a relatively pristine

A History of Marine Biodiversity Scientific Research in Costa Rica

Marine biodiversity scientific research in Costa Rica started in the 19th century. I have divided its history into three phases based on the chronology, methods, and focus of the research. The first
