This study investigates the role norepinephrine (NE) may play in regulating the differentiation of quail neural crest cells into sympatho-adrenal cells. Cues originating from the embryonic microenvironment are thought to play an important role during development. It is conceivable that NE has a positive regulatory function because adrenergic expression by quail neural crest cells in clonal culture can be inhibited by NE uptake inhibitors such as desipramine (DMI).
