A new type of peroxiredoxin, named 1-Cys peroxiredoxin (1-Cys Prx), reduces hydrogen peroxide with the use of electrons from unidentified electron donor(s). We have isolated the mouse gene encoding 1-Cys Prx (CP-3) and shown that it is comprised of five exons and four introns. Analysis of 5' flanking regions revealed binding sequences of several putative transcription factors such as Sp1, Pit-1a, c-Jun, c-Myc and YY1.
