A capillary electrophoresis method which characterizes the degrees of substitution of heterogeneous sulphoalkyl ether beta-cyclodextrin derivatives is described. The separation is based on the different electrophoretic mobilities observed from changes in the overall charge of the molecule as a result of substitution.
