Bordetella pertussis secretes a calmodulin-activated adenylate cyclase toxin, CyaA, that is able to deliver its N-terminal catalytic domain (400 amino acid residues) into the cytosol of eukaryotic target cells, directly through the cytoplasmic membrane.
