Rickettsiae are bacteria responsible for typhus and spotted fever, but no early detection reagents or vaccines are available at present. The observation of correlation between methylation of lysine residues in Rickettsial Outer membrane protein B (OmpB) and bacterial virulence suggested the importance of an enzymatic system for OmpB methylation.
