Abstract The utilization of solids-solids heat transfer in the pyrolysis stage of the KENTORT II fluid bed mini-plant has been shown to induce measurable oil losses relative to gas-solids heat transfer. Previous work indicated that aromatic hydrocarbons are more rapidly eliminated relative to aliphatic components when gasified shale particles are utilized to provide heat to the pyrolyser during combined pyrolysis/gasifier operation.
