Isolated islands in two-dimensional strongly-disordered and strongly-coupled superconductors become optically active inducing sub-gap collective excitations in the ac conductivity. Here, we investigate the fate of these excitations as a function of the disorder strength in the experimentally relevant case of weak electron-phonon coupling. An explicit calculation of the ac conductivity, that includes vertex corrections to restore gauge symmetry, reveals the existence of collective sub-gap… Expand

Optical excitation of phase modes in strongly disordered superconductors
According to the Goldstone theorem the breaking of a continuous U(1) symmetry comes along with the existence of low-energy collective modes. In the context of superconductivity these excitations areExpand
Anomalous gap-edge dissipation in disordered superconductors on the brink of localization
Superconductivity in disordered systems close to an incipient localization transition has been an area of investigation for many years, but many fundamentally important aspects are still notExpand
Enhancement of the finite-frequency superfluid response in the pseudogap regime of strongly disordered superconducting films
TLDR
It is shown that the dynamic response above Tc, obtained from the complex ac conductivity, is highly modified in the pseudogap regime of strongly disordered NbN films, suggesting a scenario of thermal phase fluctuations between superconducting domains in a strongly dis ordered s-wave superconductor. Inhomogeneous pairing in highly disordered s-wave superconductors
We study a simple model of a two-dimensional s-wave superconductor in the presence of a random potential as a function of disorder strength. We first use the Bogoliubov--de Gennes (BdG) approach toExpand
Dynamical Conductivity Across The Disorder-Tuned Superconductor-Insulator Transition
A quantum phase transition is a dramatic event marked by large spatial and temporal fluctuations, where one phase of matter with its ground state and tower of excitations reorganizes into aExpand
Phase diagram of the strongly disordered s-wave superconductor NbN close to the metal-insulator transition
We present a phase diagram as a function of disorder in three-dimensional NbN thin films, as the system enters the critical disorder for the destruction of the superconducting state. TheExpand
Global critical temperature in disordered superconductors with weak multifractality
There is growing evidence that a key feature of sufficiently disordered superconductors is the spatial inhomogeneity of the order parameter. However, not much is known analytically about the impactExpand
Role of Spatial Amplitude Fluctuations in Highly Disordered s-Wave Superconductors
The effect of non-magnetic impurities on 2D s-wave superconductors is studied beyond the weak disorder regime. Within the Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) framework, the local pairing amplitude develops aExpand
Visualization of multifractal superconductivity in a two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide in the weak-disorder regime.
TLDR
The superconducting gap, characterized by its width, depth and coherence peaks' amplitude, shows a characteristic spatial modulation coincident with the periodicity of the quasiparticle interference pattern, and the experimental singularity spectrum f(α) shows anomalous scaling behavior typical from 2D weakly disordered systems.
