In the context of the LAUE project devoted to build a long focal-length focusing optics for soft γ–ray astronomy (80 – 600 keV), we present the results of reflectivity measurements of bent crystals in different configurations, obtained by bending perfect or mosaic flat crystals. We also compare these results with those obtained using flat crystals. The measurements were performed using the Kα line of the Tungsten anode of the X–ray tube in the LARIX facility at the University of Ferrara. These…

Focusing effect of bent GaAs crystals for γ-ray Laue lenses: Monte Carlo and experimental results

We report on results of observation of the focusing effect from the planes (220) of Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) crystals. We have compared the experimental results with the Monte Carlo simulations of the

Bent crystal selection and assembling for the LAUE project

For the first time, with the Laue project, bent crystals are being used for focusing photons in the 80-300 keV energy range. The advantage is their high reflectivity and better Point Spread Function

Expected performance of a Laue lens based on bent crystals

In the context of the LAUE project devoted to build a long focal length focusing optics for soft gamma-ray astronomy (70/100 keV to <>600 keV), we present results of simulation of a Laue lens, based

Results of the simulations of the petal/lens as part of the LAUE project

In the context of the LAUE project for focusing hard X-/gamma rays, a petal of the complete lens is being assembled at the LARIX facility in the Department of Physics and Earth Science of the

Development status of the LAUE project

We present the status of LAUE, a project supported by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and devoted to develop Laue lenses with long focal length (from 10–15 meters up to 100 meters), for hard X–/soft

Quasi-mosaic crystals for high-resolution focusing of hard x-rays through a Laue lens

Quasi-mosaicity is an effect of secondary bending within a crystal driven by crystalline anisotropy. This effect can be used to fabricate a series of curved crystals for the realization of a Laue

High-resolution x-ray characterization of mosaic crystals for hard x-and gamma-ray astronomy

We have analyzed GaAs, Cu, CdTe, and CdZnTe crystals as possible optical elements for hard x-ray lenses for x-ray astronomy. We used high resolution x-ray diffraction at 8keV in Bragg geometry and

Laue lenses for hard x-/soft γ-rays: new prototype results

We present the results obtained with the new Laue lens prototype built in the LARIX facility in the Physics Department of University of Ferrara. Following the results of the first prototype presented

Development status of the LAUE project

We present the status of LAUE, a project supported by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and devoted to develop Laue lenses with long focal length (from 10–15 meters up to 100 meters), for hard X–/soft

The LAUE project for broadband gamma-ray focusing lenses

We present the LAUE project devoted to develop an advanced technology for building a high focal length Laue lens for soft gamma-ray astronomy (80-600 keV). The final goal is to develop a focusing

Focusing of gamma-rays with Laue lenses: first results

We report on the first results obtained from our development project of focusing gamma-rays (>60 keV) by using Laue lenses. The first lens prototype model has been assembled and tested. We describe

Laue Gamma-Ray Lenses for Space Astrophysics: Status and Prospects

We review feasibility studies, technological developments, and the astrophysical prospects for Laue lenses devoted to hard X-/gamma-ray astronomy observations.
