The class II molecules of the human major histocompatibility complex include the DR, DC, and SB antigens, each composed of an alpha and a beta polypeptide chain. We have isolated a DR beta gene in overlapping cosmid clones made from genomic DNA of a Dw4/DR4 homozygous individual. This gene consists of six exons and spans greater than 20 kilobases. Upon sequencing, it was found to possess several deleterious mutations, each capable of rendering the gene nonfunctional: (i) four splice junctions… Expand
Structure and evolution of the HLA Class II SXβ gene
The SX3β gene is shown to contain region closely homologous to all six exons of DPβ, suggesting that SXβ is a pseudogene, and all the other exons, as well as their splice sites and the putative promoter region, appear to be intact. Expand
A feline class II α gene with striking similarity to the HLA-DPA pseudogene
It is suggested that the feline gene is a DPA homologue (FLA-DPA) showing 84% similarity with HLA-DPα1 in the exon encoding the second domain, and the inactivation of this DPA gene could have occurred prior to the major mammalian divergence. Expand
The nucleotide sequence of bovine MHC class II DQB and DRB genes
DNA fragments containing twoBoLA-DQB genes and one of theDRB genes can be used as homologous bovine probes in restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis to study disease association in cattle. Expand
Partial nucleotide sequence of a bovine major histocompatibility class II DR beta-like gene.
A genomic clone containing a bovine DR beta-like gene and characterized by restriction enzyme mapping and nucleotide sequencing of exon regions found a 71% identity within a 514-nucleotide region immediately 3' to the beta 2 exons in BoDR beta I and BoDRbeta II. Expand
Mapping and nucleotide sequence of a newHLA class II light chain gene,DQB3
A genomic clone specifying a new HLA class II antigen β chain,DQB3, was isolated from a human genomic phage library using aDQB1 cDNA probe under low stringency conditions, suggesting the presence of a hot spot for recombination between DQB3 and DQB1. Expand
An isolated β1 exon next to the DRα gene in the HLA-D region
The β1 exon may play a role in the generation of variation in expressed class II β-chain genes and it may be a relic of a different subset of class II products. Expand
DNA sequence analysis of the rat RT1.B alpha gene.
Two blocks of conserved nucleotide sequence were identified in the 5′ promoter region of the RT1.B α gene that have been described in all MHC class II genes sequenced to date and may be involved in the coordinate regulation of expression of class I genes. Expand
Multiplication of Mhc-DRB5 loci in the orangutan: implications for the evolution of DRB haplotypes
Findings indicate that part of the DRB haplotype polymorphism may have persisted for more than 13 million years, which is the estimated time of human-orangutan divergence. Expand
DNA sequence analysis of the rat RT1.Bα gene
The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) of the rat (RT1 complex) encodes two sets of class II molecules referred to as RT1.B and RT1.D. The RT1.Bα gene was isolated for a Sprague-Dawley (RT1b) ratExpand
Comparative analysis of sequence variability in the upstream regulatory region of the HLA-DQB1 gene
Analyzing allelic variability in the upstream regulatory region of the DQB1 gene in more detail is analyzed in order to identify regions of possible functional importance for locusspecific regulation of HLA class II genes. Expand
