Cajal-Retzius cells are among the first neurons appearing during corticogenesis and play an important role in the establishment of cortical lamination. To characterize the hyperpolarization-activated inward current (I(h)) and to investigate whether I(h) contributes to the relatively positive resting membrane potential (RMP) of these cells, we analyzed the properties of I(h) in visually identified Cajal-Retzius cells in cortical slices from neonatal rats using the whole cell patch-clamp…

Contribution of the hyperpolarization-activated current (I(h)) to membrane potential and GABA release in hippocampal interneurons.
TLDR
Data suggest that hyperpolarization-activated cation current I(h) is active at the resting membrane potential in s.o. interneurons and contributes to the spontaneous activity of these cells and to the tonic inhibition of CA1 pyramidal neurons in the hippocampus.
Role of the Hyperpolarization‐Activated Cation Current (Ih) in Pacemaker Activity in Area Postrema Neurons of Rat Brain Slices
TLDR
It is indicated that the hyperpolarization‐activated cation current contributes to the subthreshold membrane and firing properties of rat area postrema neurons and may regulate their resting membrane potential and firing patterns.
Spontaneous GABAergic postsynaptic currents in Cajal–Retzius cells in neonatal rat cerebral cortex
TLDR
The results suggest that Cajal–Retzius cells transiently receive action potential‐independent and GABAA receptor‐mediated spontaneous synaptic input, which may contribute to the refinement of cortical circuits.
Effect of depolarizing GABA(A)-mediated membrane responses on excitability of Cajal-Retzius cells in the immature rat neocortex.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that focal GABA application induces heterogeneous rheobase shifts in Cajal-Retzius cells that could not be predicted reliably from [Cl(-)](i) or the GABAergic membrane depolarization.
Developmental downregulation of low‐voltage‐activated Ca2+ channels in Cajal‐Retzius cells of the mouse visual cortex
TLDR
It is suggested that LVA Ca2+ channels might influence CR cell excitability during the first postnatal week and thereby contribute to the shaping of synaptic connectivity in the neocortical layer I.
Cajal–Retzius cells in the mouse neocortex receive two types of pre‐ and postsynaptically distinct GABAergic inputs
TLDR
Cajal–Retzius (CR) cells are principal cells of layer I in the developing neocortex and receive two GABAergic inputs, which differ in the quantal amplitude, the probability of GABA release and the frequency dependence of signal transfer.
Morphology, input–output relations and synaptic connectivity of Cajal–Retzius cells in layer 1 of the developing neocortex of CXCR4-EGFP mice
TLDR
The presence of membrane excitability, the high density of CR cells in layer 1, their long-range horizontal axonal projection together with a highdensity of synaptic boutons and their synaptic input–output relationship suggest that they are an integral part of an early cortical network important not only in layer1 but also for the establishment and formation of the cortical column.
Role for the subthreshold currents ILeak and IH in the homeostatic control of excitability in neocortical somatostatin-positive inhibitory neurons.
TLDR
Using pharmacological blockade of activity in neocortical organotypic slice cultures, data indicate that both inhibitory and excitatory neurons increase membrane excitability with chronic reduction in activity, but through different mechanisms.

Low Resting Potential and Postnatal Upregulation of NMDA Receptors May Cause Cajal–Retzius Cell Death
TLDR
The findings are consistent with the hypothesis that CR cells may degenerate and die subsequent to uncontrolled overload of intracellular Ca2+ via NMDA receptor activation by ambient glutamate and evidence showing the protection of CR cells viain vivo blockade of NMDA receptors with dizocilpine is obtained.
Properties of the hyperpolarization-activated current in rat hippocampal CA1 pyramidal cells.
TLDR
Voltage and current clamp recordings were performed on CA1 rat hippocampal pyramidal cells using the patch clamp technique on "in vitro" slice preparations and the Cd-insensitive (medium-duration) afterhyperpolarization elicited by a train of action potentials at -60 mV had an amplitude of 3.9 +/- 0.3 mV.

TLDR
It is suggested that the membrane properties of rat neocortical layer I neurons mature rapidly during the first two postnatal weeks, compared with the first three weeks of postnatal life.
Hyperpolarization‐activated currents in isolated superior colliculus‐projecting neurons from rat visual cortex.
TLDR
Ih appears to control the duration and the frequency of repetitive firing following the cessation of sustained hyperpolarizing current injections and underlies the depolarizing 'sag’ and ‘overshoot’ observed in SCP neurons following the onset and offset, respectively.
Properties of a hyperpolarization‐activated cation current and its role in rhythmic oscillation in thalamic relay neurones.
TLDR
Results indicate that Ih is carried by both Na+ and K+ ions, which is consistent with the extrapolated reversal potential of ‐43 mV, and contributes substantially to the resting and active membrane properties of thalamocortical relay neurones.
Two kinetically distinct components of hyperpolarization‐activated current in rat superior colliculus‐projecting neurons.
TLDR
The hyperpolarization‐activated currents in rat SCP neurons are ideally suited to contribute to the control of the resting membrane potential and input resistance and the lack of correlation between the relative amplitudes of these components suggest that Ih,f and IH,s reflect the presence of two functionally distinct channel populations.
A family of hyperpolarization-activated mammalian cation channels
TLDR
The molecular cloning and functional expression of the gene encoding a hyperpolarization-activated cation channel (HAC1) that is present in brain and heart is reported, and this channel exhibits the general properties of Ih channels.
Two inward currents and the transformation of low‐frequency oscillations of rat and cat thalamocortical cells.
TLDR
In cells showing the pacemaker oscillations it was found that the current developing from the most hyperpolarized potential of an oscillation cycle was an inward relaxation whose time course differed from that of Ih evoked at the same potential.
