Abstract In the summer of 2016, a field of corn (Zea mays) in Spencer County, Indiana was observed with heavily stunted plants, and from the affected roots a large number of cysts were recovered. Soil samples were submitted to one of us (JF), who extracted the nematode cysts and sent them to the USDA-ARS, Mycology and Nematology Genetic Diversity and Biology Laboratory (MNGDBL), Beltsville, MD for morphological and molecular identification. Cysts and the recovered second-stage juveniles (J2…

Molecular and morphological characterization of Globodera rostochiensis (Wollenweber, 1923) Skarbilovich, 1959 from Egypt
The golden potato cyst nematode, Globodera rostochiensis (Wollenweber, 1923) Skarbilovich (1959) is a damaging soilborne quarantine pest of Solanum tuberosum (potato) and other solanaceous crops
First report of Cactodera milleri Graney and Bird, 1990 from Colorado and Minnesota
TLDR
The cysts and juveniles were recovered from soil samples through sieving and Baermann funnel extraction and represents the first report of Cactodera milleri from Colorado and Minnesota.
Morphological and molecular characterisation of Punctodera mulveyi n. sp. (Nematoda: Punctoderidae) from a golf course green in Oregon, USA, with a key to species of Punctodera
TLDR
Morphologically the new species resembles all known species of Punctodera, but differs from the other species either by the J2 body and stylet length, shape of head, tail and tail terminus, female and male stylet or spicule length, and in having distinctive vulval and anal circumfenestral patterns in the cysts.
An interesting rare tylenchid species, Antarctenchus urmiensis n. sp. (Tylenchomorpha; Psilenchidae) from Urmia Lake islands, northwest Iran, with a discussion on the taxonomy of related genera
TLDR
The currently available phylogenies and taxonomic frameworks were re-evaluated for the placement of the didelphic Tylenchidae-like genera, the overall results showing the best resolution is achieved with the family concept of Psilenchidae under Dolichodoroidea.

Vittatidera zeaphila (Nematoda: Heteroderidae), a new genus and species of cyst nematode parasitic on corn (Zea mays).
TLDR
DNA analysis suggests that Vittatidera forms a separate group apart from other cyst-forming genera within Heteroderinae.
Heterodera elachista the Japanese cyst nematode parasitizing corn in Northern Italy: integrative diagnosis and bionomics
TLDR
Considering the limited host-range of this nematode, that include two of the three world’s most important crops, special attention is needed for avoiding the dispersal of this Nemesis into new areas, by movement of soil on equipment, water, and contaminated containers infested soil, or agricultural practices.
DNA barcoding evidence for the North American presence of alfalfa cyst nematode, Heterodera medicaginis
TLDR
Evidence suggests that this finding represents the first record of H. medicaginis in North America, the alfalfa cyst nematode originally described from the USSR in 1971, and maximum likelihood phylogenetic trees show that the al falfa specimens form a sister clade most closely related to H. glycines.
Morphological and Molecular Identification of Globodera pallida Associated with Potato in Idaho.
The identity of a newly discovered population of pale potato cyst nematode Globodera pallida associated with potato in eastern Idaho was established by morphological and molecular methods.

Molecular characterization and phylogenetic evaluation of the hsp90 gene from selected nematodes.
TLDR
The phylogenetic potential of the nuclear Hsp90 chaperone gene is examined to help strengthen branch support or clarify tree topologies when other molecules show ambiguous alignments, greater branch-length heterogeneity, or codon bias in certain taxonomic groups.
An integrated approach to fast and informative morphological vouchering of nematodes for applications in molecular barcoding
TLDR
It is argued that data-rich surveys and phylogenetic tools for analysis of barcode sequences are an essential component of the exploration of phyla with a high fraction of undiscovered species.
Improved 18S small subunit rDNA primers for problematic nematode amplification
TLDR
New primers were developed based on a very large 276 taxon alignment of 124 agriculturally important nematodes species, and tested on problematic nematode taxa such as Aphelenchoides, Bursaphelenchus, Ditylenchus, and Panagrolaimus for successful generation of sequences useful in future investigations of Nematode systematics.
Phylum-wide analysis of SSU rDNA reveals deep phylogenetic relationships among nematodes and accelerated evolution toward crown Clades.
TLDR
The exclusive common presence of fungivorous and plant parasitic nematodes supports a long-standing hypothesis that states that plant parasitic Nematodes arose from fungivory ancestors.
