In order to test the hypothesis that increases in calf venous distensibility in microgravity are partly due to the changes affecting the surrounding skeletal muscles (muscular atrophy), 12 healthy volunteers were exposed for 28 d to microgravity simulated by -6 degrees head-down bed rest.
