Abstract Age, growth and reproduction of the Shemaya, Chalcalburnus chalcoides, was studied in the Ömerli Reservoir, a large drinking water system located in Istanbul province (Turkey). The von Bertalanffy growth function displayed variation in growth rates between the sexes. Asymptotic lengths calculated for both sexes were high, probably due to the lack of large predatory fishes and lack of fishing in the reservoir. Females dominated all age classes with the exception of the second age, and… Expand
Life-history Aspects of Caspian Shemaya Alburnus chalcoides in Two South Caspian Rivers (Siahroud and Gorganroud)
TLDR
Comparisons of the results imply that many aspects of life history of Caspian shemaya are different markedly among the rivers. Expand
Morphological discrimination between two populations of shemaya, Chalcalburnus chalcoides (Actinopterygii, Cyprinidae), using a truss network.
TLDR
The findings support the use of the truss network to study morphological variation among populations as it provides interesting perspectives for the study of biodiversity patterns. Expand
Macroscopic and Microscopic Examination of Seasonal Gonad Change in Alburnus istanbulensis (Battalgil, 1941) (Teleostei:Cyprinidae)
TLDR
By comparing the histological findings with macroscopic observations and GSI values, five developmental stages were determined for females, four developmental stages for males and these findings revealed that A. istanbulensis spawn. Expand
Gillnets Selection of Alburnus chalcoides (Güldenstädt, 1772) in Almus Dam Lake (Tokat, Turkey)
In this study gill-net selectivity for Alburnus chalcoides inhabiting the Almus Dam Lake was estimated. Experimental gill-net fishing was conducted using gill-net with 15 mm and 20 mm mesh-size,Expand
A comparative study on some biological parameters in broodstock and juvenile kutum, Rutilus kutum in the southern Caspian Sea basin
TLDR
The results showed higher condition factors (CF) in the male broodstocks kutum than those estimated in the female broodstock of both TR and SR and the female juveniles displayed a greater level of CF. Expand
Morphological differentiation between two populations of the Shemaya, Chalcalburnus chalcoides: a geometrical morphometric approach
TLDR
The results show the difference in body shape between the two populations is probably due to habitat influence (water flow speed), and a sexual dimorphism of shape, in particular the abdominal area, which appeared to be more enlarged in the females of theTwo populations. Expand
Sex steroid levels, reproductive indices and histological examination of gonads in adult male and female Caspian shemaya, Alburnus chalcoides
TLDR
Reproductive status of Alburnus chalcoides adults from Anzali Wetland was investigated by histological examination of gonads, assessment of sex steroids, reproductive indices and reproductive indices, and there were no significant differences between matured and maturing males and females. Expand
Effect of pituitary extract, ovaprim and combination of human chorionic gonadotropin and metoclopramide on reproductive performance of Caspian shemaya, Alburnus chalcoides (Guldenstadt, 1772)
TLDR
Higher efficiency of ovaprim is demonstrated in improving the reproductive performance of Caspian shemaya and there were no significant differences between experimental groups in terms of other assayed parameters. Expand
Ayvacık Barajı (Çanakkale) Alburnus chalcoides (Güldenstädt, 1772) Populasyonuna Ait Parametrelerin Belirlenmesi
Bu calisma, Ayvacik Baraji Alburnus chalcoides populasyonuna ait parametrelerin belirlenmesi amaciyla Agustos-Kasim 2014 tarihleri arasinda gerceklestirilmis olup toplam 726 birey incelenmistir.Expand
Application of genetic algorithm (GA) to select input variables in support vector machine (SVM) for analyzing the occurrence of roach, Rutilus rutilus, in streams
Support vector machine (SVM) was used to analyze the occurrence of roach in Flemish stream basins (Belgium). Several habitat and physico?chemical variables were used as inputs for the modelExpand

Reproductive ecology of two cyprinid fishes in an oligotrophic lake near the southern limits of their distribution range
TLDR
Investigation of the reproductive activities of two dominant fish species in an oligotrophic lake in the northwest of Turkey revealed that spawning of both species in this area started earlier, but spawning temperature and the duration of spawning was approximately the same. Expand
Reproductive strategy of Aphanius fasciatus Nardo, 1827 (Pisces: Cyprinodontidae) in the Mesolongi and Etolikon lagoons (W. Greece)
TLDR
The reproductive effort (GSI) and histological studies of the ovaries indicate that reproduction is extended and lasts from April to July and fish originating from the sites with higher salinity has significantly lower GSI values and lays fewer eggs per unit of size. Expand
Abundance and biomass of fishes in the Veleka River, Bulgaria
TLDR
The main reasons for the low fish abundance and biomass in the Veleka River and its tributaries were the intensive development of tourist industry in the region and the intensive, practically uncontrolled commercial and sport fishing and poaching. Expand

TLDR
The process of oogenesis of C. chalcoides living in Lake Todurge was histologically studied from monthly samples during April-November 2000 and is considered to be synchronous. Expand
Occurrence of toxic cyanobacteria before and after copper sulphate treatment in a water reservoir, Istanbul, Turkey
TLDR
Omerli reservoir, one of the reservoirs supplying drinking water to most of Istanbul, suffers from eutrophication and copper sulphate (algicide) was applied to the reservoir in order to prevent cyanobacterial blooms. Expand
