Abstract This study investigates the distribution of the sea surface height anomaly (SSHA) with the aim of quantifying the characteristics of mesoscale eddies in the Kuroshio–Oyashio extension region (KOER), where intense mesoscale eddies are commonly observed during hydrographic surveys.
