OBJECTIVE The Shal (or Kv4) gene family has been proposed to be responsible for primary subunits of the transient outward potassium current (Ito). More precisely, Kv4.2 and Kv4.3 have been suggested to be the most likely molecular correlates for Ito in rat cells.
