As stated in the introduction, the mucous glandular system of the conjunctiva falls naturally into two main groups: That part of the gland system which is formed by goblet cells debouching independently into the mucosal surface and that part which is composed of the mucous crypts. The investigations to be reported in Part I1 were centred on goblet cells debouching independently into the mucosal surface.
