The characteristics of algorithmic libraries include the following: • main concepts are adequately captured as abstract data types (ADTs) and algorithms that operate on the ADTs; • there is usually a well developed underlying mathematical theory, e.g. linear algebra [GL96], image algebra [RW96], graph theory [BM76]; • the ADTs and the algorithms usually come in large varieties.
