In this chapter, we consider the contribution of the posterior parietal cortex (PPC) to obstacle avoidance behavior and we define a model that identifies the major planning processes that are required for this task. A key aspect of this planning process is the need to integrate information concerning the obstacle, obtained from vision, together with an estimation of body and limb state.
