Previous investigations of eelgrass (Zostera marina L.) beds in the Barnegat Bay-Little Egg Harbor Estuary, New Jersey (USA) revealed a significant decline in plant biomass associated with ongoing nitrogen enrichment of the system and declines in light availability.
