Bariatric surgery alleviates obesity and ameliorates glucose tolerance. Using metabolomic and proteomic profiles, we evaluated metabolic changes in serum and liver tissue after duodenal-jejunal bypass (DJB) surgery in rats fed a normal chow diet. We found that the levels of vitamin B12 in the sera of DJB rates were decreased. In the liver of DJB rats, betaine-homocysteine S-methyltransferase levels were decreased, whereas serine, cystathionine, cysteine, glutathione, cystathionine β-synthase…

The Changes of Serum Metabolites in Diabetic GK Rats after Ileal Transposition Surgery
TLDR
IT surgery could significantly decrease body weight and fat mass and improve glucose metabolism in diabetic GK rats and these beneficial effects might be related to the changes of serum metabolites which involved in lipid metabolism, bile acids, and incretin.
Myocardial metabolic alterations in mice with diet-induced atherosclerosis: linking sulfur amino acid and lipid metabolism
TLDR
The results suggest that a long-term AD leads to SAA metabolism dysregulation and increased oxidative stress in the heart, causing SCD1 activity suppression and accumulation of toxic TGs with a low degree of unsaturation.
The characterization of metabolites alterations in white adipose tissue of diabetic GK Rats after ileal transposition surgery by an untargeted metabolomics approach
TLDR
The differential metabolites in WAT of diabetic GK rats were mainly related to the pathway of energy metabolism, and correlated with the improved phenotypes of diabeticGK rats after IT surgery.
Piperine regulates UCP1 through the AMPK pathway by generating intracellular lactate production in muscle cells
TLDR
Results suggest that piperine leads to benign metabolic effects by activating the AMPK-p38 MAPK signaling pathway and UCP1 expression by activating intracellular lactate production in skeletal muscle.
Application of Metabolomics to Study Effects of Bariatric Surgery
TLDR
It proves that including bariatric surgery to metabolic surgery is warranted, and application of metabolomics to study this field seems to be a proper solution.
Bariatric Surgery Affects Plasma Levels of Alanine Aminotransferase Independent of Weight Loss: A Registry-Based Study
TLDR
AlT and AST levels were reduced two years after surgery compared with a cohort of retrospectively matched patients for ethnicity, sex, age, BMI, and A1C and patients who regained weight displayed a reduction in levels of liver enzymes.

Hyperglucagonemia in Rats Results in Decreased Plasma Homocysteine and Increased Flux through the Transsulfuration Pathway in Liver*
TLDR
The results indicate that glucagon can regulate plasma homocysteine through its effects on the hepatic transsulfuration pathway.
Metabolite Profiling Identifies Candidate Markers Reflecting the Clinical Adaptations Associated with Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery
TLDR
Global metabolite profiling in morbidly obese subjects after RYGB has provided new information regarding the considerable metabolic alterations associated with this surgical procedure and is capable of identifying markers that reflect the metabolic adaptations following RY GB.
Modulation of Methyl Group Metabolism by Streptozotocin-induced Diabetes and All-trans-retinoic Acid*
TLDR
Results indicate that both a diabetic condition and RA treatment have marked effects on the metabolism of methyl groups and homocysteine, a finding that may have significant implications for diabetics and their potential sensitivity to retinoids.
The Mechanism of Diabetes Control After Gastrointestinal Bypass Surgery Reveals a Role of the Proximal Small Intestine in the Pathophysiology of Type 2 Diabetes
TLDR
This study shows that bypassing a short segment of proximal intestine directly ameliorates type 2 diabetes, independently of effects on food intake, body weight, malabsorption, or nutrient delivery to the hindgut.
Differential Metabolic Impact of Gastric Bypass Surgery Versus Dietary Intervention in Obese Diabetic Subjects Despite Identical Weight Loss
TLDR
The data support the notion that the surgical intervention promoted enhanced BCAA metabolism by mechanisms separate from weight loss and suggest that changes in circulating amino acids pave the road to the correction of glycemic control observed after GBP.
Metformin decreases gluconeogenesis by enhancing the pyruvate kinase flux in isolated rat hepatocytes.
TLDR
In isolated hepatocytes from fasted rats, a significant inhibition of glucose production from lactate/pyruvate, fructose, alanine or glutamine, following metformin addition is observed, and this could explain the stimulation of pyruVate-kinase activity following met formin addition and thus the inhibition of gluconeogenesis.
Carbon Flux via the Pentose Phosphate Pathway Regulates the Hepatic Expression of the Glucose-6-phosphatase and Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase Genes in Conscious Rats*
Hepatic gene expression of P-enolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) and glucose-6-phosphatase (Glc-6-Pase) is regulated in response to changes in the availability of substrates, in particular glucose
