After capture by trawling, the blood parameters of plaice (Pleuronectes platessa L.) are perturbed for up to 5 days post-capture. Whole blood values recovered from an initial stress-induced haemoconcentration within 12 hr. There is a marked hyperglycaemia following capture: blood glucose concentration increased four-fold to 87.92 +/- 10.41 mg/100 ml (N = 6) after 12 hr and remained elevated for 3-4 days before returning to normal values.
