OBJECTIVE To evaluate changes in cerebral tissue oxygenation and blood volume during obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). METHODS We studied eight men with moderate to severe OSA by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) simultaneously with polysomnography during nocturnal sleep (five patients) and daytime naps (three).
