Wordnets have been created in many languages, revealing both their lexical commonalities and diversity. The next challenge is to make multilingual wordnets fully interoperable. The EuroWordNet experience revealed the shortcomings of an interlingua based on a natural language. Instead, we propose a model based on the division of the lexicon and a language-independent, formal ontology that serves as the hub interlinking the language-specific lexicons. The ontology avoids the idiosyncracies of the… Expand
Some Issues with Building a Multilingual Wordnet
TLDR
A new version of the Open Multilingual Wordnet is introduced, that integrates a new set of tools that tests the extensions introduced by this new format, while also ensuring the integrity of the Collaborative Interlingual Index (CILI: Bond et al., 2016). Expand
IndoNet: A Multilingual Lexical Knowledge Network for Indian Languages
TLDR
IndoNet is a linked structure of wordnets of 18 different Indian languages, Universal Word dictionary and the Suggested Upper Merged Ontology, encoded in Lexical Markup Framework (LMF) and modifications in LMF are proposed to accommodate Universal Word Dictionary and SUMO. Expand
A Multilingual Lexico-Semantic Database and Ontology
TLDR
The Open Multilingual Wordnet is described, a multilingual wordnet with 22 languages and a rich structure of semantic relations and some issues in extending the wordnets and improving the multilingual representation to cover concepts not lexicalized in English are discussed. Expand
Expanding wordnets to new languages with multilingual sense disambiguation
TLDR
This work leverages existing translations of WordNet in other languages to identify contextual information for wordnet senses from a large set of generic parallel corpora and shows a significant improvement over translation without any contextual information. Expand
Sparse Bilingual Word Representations for Cross-lingual Lexical Entailment
TLDR
To address the challenge of comparing contexts across languages, a novel method for inducing sparse bilingual word representations from monolingual and parallel texts is proposed and significantly outperforms strong baselines based on translation and on existing word representations. Expand
Polylingual Wordnet
TLDR
This work leverages existing translations of WordNet in other languages to identify contextual information for wordnet senses from a large set of generic parallel corpora and shows a significant improvement over translation without any contextual information. Expand
Automatic Wordnet Development for Low-Resource Languages using Cross-Lingual WSD
TLDR
An Expectation-Maximization algorithm is used to create high quality and large scale wordnets for poor-resource languages and shows that the induced wordnet has a precision score of 90% and a recall score of 35%. Expand
Towards Producing Human-Validated Translation Resources for the Fula language through WordNet Linking
TLDR
Methods to link automatically parsed linguistic data to the WordNet through two attempts are proposed and applied on a trilingual dictionary in Fula, English and French. Expand
Towards the Multilingual Semantic Web
I analyze Berners-Lee, Hendler, and Lassila’s description of the Semantic Web, discussing what it implies for a Multilingual Semantic Web and the barriers that the nature of language itself puts inExpand
Linking and Extending an Open Multilingual Wordnet
We create an open multilingual wordnet with large wordnets for over 26 languages and smaller ones for 57 languages. It is made by combining wordnets with open licences, data from Wiktionary and theExpand
