A complex between cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant and silver bromide (CTASB) is recognized by NMR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to be the entity at the surface of gold nanorods, resulting from an in situ formation in the classical scheme of synthesis.
