Patients with carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract presenting with cervical lymph node metastasis carry a poorer prognosis compared to those in whom the regional lymph nodes are uninvolved. Prognosis worsens as the volume of metastatic cancer in the cervical lymph nodes increases.
