Cerebral infarction in children may be the result of various disease processes, including emboli from intracardiac sources, paradoxical emboli from the venous system, sickle cell disease, cyanotic heart disease, vasculitis affecting the carotid or cerebral vascular system, vascular anomalies, and prothrombotic states.
