Cephalosporin acetylesterase activity was detected in a number of fusaria tested. Of these Fusarium oxysporum AY F-298 was found to be the most active. Deacetyl derivatives of cephalothin and phenoxymethyl cephalosporin prepared by hydrolysis of the parent compounds with AY F-298 showed low antimicrobial activity.
