BACKGROUND Weight loss indicates a poor prognosis in cystic fibrosis (CF). We hypothesised that fat-free mass (FFM) depletion and increased systemic inflammation would be associated with increased cellular proteolysis during an exacerbation of the respiratory symptoms.
