Sexual activity (SA), combined with organic heart disease, may cause sudden death (SD). However, the causes of SD related to SA are not known well. The aim of this study was to assess the causes of SD related to SA. From August 2001 to November 2005, all autopsies (n=1,379) performed at Kyungpook National University were prospectively searched for SD cases related to SA. Fourteen cases (46±11 yr old, 9 males) of SD related to SA were found. All were heterosexual. The toxicologic study was…

Unsolved allegation of sexual intercourse and Viagra for possible causes of sudden unexpected death at the forensic autopsy
Patients with cardiovascular diseases are warned for the possible risk for sudden unexpected death particularly when their environments are in an unusual situation.
Post-coital death in chronic sildenafil abuser
The case of a 66 year man with no history of cardiac problems who suddenly collapsed during sexual intercourse with his spouse is presented and extramarital sexual activity with younger partner and unfamiliar setting seems to represent risk factor as well as excessive food and alcohol consumption.
Sudden and Unexpected Death During Sexual Activity, Due to a Glial Cyst of the Pineal Gland.
A complete forensic approach concluded that the cause of death was fatal cardiorespiratory failure resulting from midbrain compression due to a nonneoplastic pineal gland cyst, exacerbated by sexual activity.
Cardiovascular effects of sexual activity.
This review summarizes and discusses the advances in the researches dealing with cardiovascular effects of sexual activity to better inform the cardiac patients.
Sexual activity as a trigger for intracranial hemorrhage
Sexual-activity-related ICH is rare and includes various etiologies, which likely underlies the association with dramatic increases in arterial blood pressure.
Fatal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage During Sexual Activity: A Case Report
This case demonstrates that subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to a cerebral artery rupture is still an important cause of death despite steady advances in diagnosis and treatment.
Death Related to Aortic Coarctation in a Young Female During Sexual Intercourse
The first documented death of an apparently healthy 35‐year‐old woman because of cardiac tamponade by rupture of an aortic aneurysm is described, possibly related to congenital CA, prolonged use of oxymetazoline hydrochloride, and physical and/or emotional stress during sexual activity.

[Sudden cardiovascular death during sexual intercourse--results of a legal medicine autopsy study].
This epidemiologic, retrospective follow-up mortality study is based on the data gathered in the department of forensic medicine at the University Hospital of Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main and reveals 39 cases of natural deaths occurring during sexual activity over a period of 21 years.
Clinical characteristics of unexpected death among young enlisted military personnel: results of a three-decade retrospective surveillance.
Cardiac events are the leading cause of unexpected death in young healthy people in Israeli military personnel, and the frequency of subjects with asthma was found to be higher than that in the general age-adjusted population.
Clinical characteristics of unexplained sudden cardiac death in Korea.
Unexplained SCD is common in Korea and develops predominantly in middle-aged males around midnight or in the late morning usually with no prodromal symptoms, and Idiopathic ventricular fibrillation is thought to be one of the important causes.
Sudden Death Resulting from Lesions of the Cardiac Conduction System
Examination of the CCS in deaths in which the gross and microscopic autopsy, history, and drug screen fail to provide a cause of death can yield acause of death in a significant percentage of cases.
Triggers of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: Role of Physical Exertion, Smoking, and Alcohol in the Australasian Cooperative Research on Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Study (ACROSS)
Moderate to extreme physical exertion tripled the risk of subarachnoid hemorrhage, but there was no association between transient heavy smoking or binge drinking and risk of SAH.
Triggering Myocardial Infarction by Sexual Activity: Low Absolute Risk and Prevention by Regular Physical Exertion
Sexual activity can trigger the onset of MI, but the relative risk is low, and the absolute risk increase caused by sexual activity also is extremely low (1 chance in a million for a healthy individual).
Sexual activity as a trigger of myocardial infarction. A case-crossover analysis in the Stockholm Heart Epidemiology Programme (SHEEP)
The increased risk of myocardial infarction after sexual activity and the further increase in risk among the less physically fit support the hypothesis of causal triggering by sexual activity.
Myocardial ischemia during sexual activity in patients with coronary artery disease.
Triggering myocardial infarction by sexual activity. Low absolute risk and prevention by regular physical exertion. Determinants of Myocardial Infarction Onset Study Investigators.
Sexual activity can trigger the onset of myocardial infarction, the relative risk is low, and the absolute risk increase caused by sexual activity also is extremely low (1 chance in a million for a healthy individual).
Ventricular arrhythmias during sexual activity in patients with coronary artery disease.
STUDY OBJECTIVE Information on appearance or increase of ventricular arrhythmias during intercourse in patients with coronary disease is still inadequate. This prospective study analyzes patients'
