We present a minimal model for the global carbon cycle of the Earth containing the reservoirs mantle, ocean floor, continental crust, biosphere, and the kerogen, as well as the aggregated reservoir ocean and atmosphere. The model is specified by in-troducing three di ff erent types of biosphere: procaryotes, eucaryotes, and complex 5 multicellular life. We find that from the Archaean to the future a procaryotic biosphere always exists. 2 Gyr ago eucaryotic life first appears. The emergence of…

The Venus Life Equation.
Ancient Venus and Earth may have been similar in crucial ways for the development of life, such as liquid water oceans, land-ocean interfaces, favorable chemical ingredients, and energy pathways. If
Galactic punctuated equilibrium: how to undermine Carter's anthropic argument in astrobiology.
TLDR
It is concluded that drawing far-reaching conclusions about the scarcity of extraterrestrial intelligence and the prospects of the efforts to detect it on the basis of Carter's argument is unwarranted.
DEEP FUTURE of BIG HISTORY : Cultural Evolution , Technoculture , and Omega Civilization
  • Biology
  • 2014
TLDR
This work attempts to construct a useful model for understanding the human deep future, and explores the potential deep futures of intelligence, and extrapolate towards two hypothetical versions of an “Omega Civilization”: Expansion and Transcension.
Big Historical Foundations for Deep Future Speculations: Cosmic Evolution, Atechnogenesis, and Technocultural Civilization
Abstract Big historians are attempting to construct a general holistic narrative of human origins enabling an approach to studying the emergence of complexity, the relation between evolutionary

CoHSI III: Long proteins and implications for protein evolution
TLDR
It is shown that CoHSI predicts the recent appearance in evolutionary time of the longest proteins, specifically in eukaryotes because of their richer unique alphabet of amino acids, and this is confirmed by merging with independent phylogenetic data.
Waiting for the rapture: What can we do with computers to (hopefully) witness the emergence of life?
Hadn’t this question already been answered? We all know about computation-universal Turing Machines. And we know that any such machine can simulate a space–time dynamics not unlike von Neumann’s

Reduction of biosphere life span as a consequence of geodynamics
The long-term co-evolution of the geosphere’biospere complex from the Proterozoic up to 1.5 billion years into the planet’s future is investigated using a conceptual earth system model including the
Life span of the biosphere
There has been life on Earth for at least 3,500 Myr but the assumption that a comparable future lies ahead may not be justified. Main sequence stars appear to increase their burning rate as they age.
Biotic feedback extends the life span of the biosphere
The Sun is becoming more luminous with time and will eventually overheat the biosphere. However, life cools the Earth by amplifying the rate of silicate rock weathering and maintaining a low level of
Cambrian explosion triggered by geosphere‐biosphere feedbacks
A new hypothesis for the cause of the Cambrian explosion is presented. For that the evolution of the planet Earth is described by the co‐evolution of the geosphere‐biosphere system. Here we specify
The life span of the biosphere revisited
TLDR
A more elaborate model that includes a more accurate treatment of the greenhouse effect of CO2, a biologically mediated weathering parameterization, and the realization that C4 photosynthesis can persist to much lower concentrations of atmospheric CO2 is found to find that a C4-plant-based biosphere could survive for at least another 0.9 Gyr to 1.5 Gyr after the present time.
Life, Temperature, and the Earth: The Self-Organizing Biosphere
The idea that living things and the atmosphere, oceans, and soils comprise an interactive, self-regulating system-the Gaia concept-was first proposed nearly thirty years ago. Since then researchers
