The cationic lanthanide complexes of two neutral tripodal N,O ligands, tpa (tris[(2-pyridyl)methyl]amine) and tpaam (tris[6-((2-N,N-diethylcarbamoyl)pyridyl)methyl]amine) are studied in water. The analysis of the proton lanthanide induced NMR shifts indicate that there is no abrupt structural change in the middle of the rare-earth series. Unexpectedly, the formation constant values of the lanthanide podates of tpaam and tpa in D2O at 298 K are similar, suggesting that the addition of the three…
Water-soluble tetrapodal N,O ligands incorporating soft N-heterocycles for the selective complexation of Am(III) over Ln(III)
A series of four water-soluble N,O-tetrapodal ligands derived from ethylenediamine, bearing hard acetate groups and soft N-heterocycles, either pyridine or pyrazine, was developed to study the impact
Thermodynamic study of Cd(II) complex formation with tripodal N-donor ligands in DMSO
The complex formation of Cd(II) with N-donor ligands in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) is investigated by means of potentiometry and titration calorimetry. The ligands considered in this work are tripodal
Polypyridinic ligand coordination to Zn2+ and Hg2+ metal ions
The thermodynamic parameters for the complexation reaction between Zn2+ and Hg2+ ions with the mixed amino-polypyridinic ligands tris[(2-pyridyl)methyl]amine (TPA) and 6,6-bis–bis
1 : 1 vs. 2 : 1 coordination of pentadentate hydrazone-type ligands to lanthanide(III) ions. Formation of cationic as well as dicationic complexes.
TLDR
Bis-acylhydrazones of 2,6-pyridinedicarbaldehyde are introduced as planar pentadentate ligands for the coordination of lanthanide(III) ions, leading to cationic and even dicationic coordination compounds.
Lanthanide-binding peptides with two pendant aminodiacetate arms: impact of the sequence on chelation.
TLDR
The position of the Ada(1) residue in the sequence is demonstrated to be critical for the lanthanide complex speciation and structure and promotes the coordination of the backbone amide function to afford a highly dehydrated Ln complex and an S-shape structure of the peptide backbone.
Synthesis and structural analyses of phenylethynyl-substituted tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amines and their copper(ii) complexes.
TLDR
Three new tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine-based ligands possessing phenylethynyl units have been prepared using Sonogashira couplings and substitution reactions and copper complexes of those tetradentate ligands showed a remarkably deformed carbon-carbon triple bond enforced by a steric effect of the three phenyl groups.
A series of tripodal cysteine derivatives as water-soluble chelators that are highly selective for copper(I).
TLDR
Two sulfur-based tripods L(1) and L(2) are of potential interest for intracellular copper detoxication in vivo, without altering the homeostasis of the essential metal ion Zn(II).

TLDR

Lanthanide-containing molecular and supramolecular polymetallic functional assemblies.
TLDR
Detailed studies of lanthanide solvates with water or acetonitrile suggest that trivalent lanthanides display a tendency to adopt nine-coordinate tricapped trigonal prismatic (TTP) arrangements around the metal ion in the solid state.

Solid-state and solution properties of the lanthanide complexes of a new heptadentate tripodal ligand: a route to gadolinium complexes with an improved relaxation efficiency.
TLDR
Although the low solubility of the Gd complex of tpaa prevents its practical application as an MRI contrast agent, the straightforward introduction of substituents on the pyridine rings allows us to envisage ligands with a higher watersolubility, containing functional groups leading to macromolecular systems with very high relaxivity.
Connecting terminal carboxylate groups in nine-coordinate lanthanide podates: consequences on the thermodynamic, structural, electronic, and photophysical properties.
TLDR
High-resolution emission spectroscopy demonstrates that the replacement of terminal carboxamides with carboxylates induces only minor electronic changes for the metallic site, the solid-state structure is maintained in water, and the metal in the podate is efficiently protected from interactions with solvent molecules.
