We study the influence of finite conductivity of metals on the Casimir effect. We put the emphasis on explicit theoretical evaluations which can help comparing experimental results with theory. The reduction of the Casimir force is evaluated for plane metallic plates. The reduction of the Casimir energy in the same configuration is also calculated. It can be used to infer the reduction of the force in the planesphere geometry through the “proximity theorem”. Frequency dependent dielectric…

Weak Adhesion between Contacting Rough Surfaces as Applied to Micro/Nanotechnologies

Sticking of some elements of microelectromechanical systems is a serious problem, which may arise at the stages of producing or exploiting such devices. The equilibrium distances and adhesion

Isotope effect on radiative thermal transport

Isotope effects on heat conduction and convection have been known for decades. However, whether thermal radiation can be isotopically engineered remains an open question. Here, we predict over

The Casimir effect in chiral media using path integral techniques

We employ path integral methods to calculate the Casimir energy and force densities in a chiral extension of QED. Manifestly gauge invariant perfect electromagnetic boundary conditions, a natural

Energetics of quantum vacuum friction. II. Dipole fluctuations and field fluctuations

(Dated: Quantum vacuum friction experienced by an atom, where the only dissipative mechanism is through its interaction with the radiation field, has been studied in our recent paper [Phys. Rev. D 104

Ultralight Dark Photon and Casimir Effect

We investigate the influence of a dark photon on the Casimir effect and calculate the corresponding leading contribution to the Casimir energy. For expected magnitudes of the photon - dark photon

Nanostructured ZnO and ZnO: Pd with MXene overlayer SPR biosensors

The theoretical modeling of two surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based biosensing probe configurations on optical fiber employing Metal/ZnO/MXene and Metal/ znO: Pd/MXenes is reported, which can be a potential tool for COVID-19 detection.

Surface Plasmon Resonance-Based Fiber-Optic Metallic Multilayer Biosensors

Different multilayer metallic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor configurations comprising Au, Ag, Al, and Cu are analyzed by employing an N-layer matrix formalism as applied to the fixed-angle spectral SPR sensing methodology.

The true nature and composition of the dark matter is currently unknown, which remains one of the most significant unsolved problems in modern physics. Dark photons (also known as hidden, para-, or

Limits on the existence of scalar interactions in the submillimeter range

Upper limits to the presence of scalar interactions are given in the Compton wavelength range around ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ m. The technique is based on the search for displacements induced on a

Optical Properties of Ag and Cu

Experimental data for the optical constants of Ag and Cu extending to 25 eV are discussed in terms of three fundamental physical processes: (1) free-electron effects, (2) interband transitions, and

Casimir Force Between a Flat Plate and a Spherical Lens:. Application to the Results of a New Experiment

The Casimir force is calculated in a configuration consisting of a lens placed above a flat plate of arbitrary size used in recent experiment. The corrections due to the finite size of the plate are
