The role of genetic factors in the etiology of colorectal cancers (CRCs) has recently been elucidated with the discovery of the mismatch repair. These genes are responsible for less than 5% of all cases of CRCs in Caucasian series. In this pilot study, tumors from 5 randomly ascertained CRC patients were subjected to microsatellite analysis, and two were microsatellite unstable.
