Effects of central GABAergic stimulation on cardiovascular function were evaluated in 2-kidney, 1-clip (2K1C) renovascular hypertensive rats (RVHR). Intracerebroventricular injection (icv) of GABA (100 and 200 micrograms) reduced blood pressure (BP) to a greater degree in RVHR as compared with sham-operated controls, and the greatest response was seen in RVHR 4 wk after operation (4 wk-RVHR). In addition, a decreased sensitivity of baroreflex was observed in 4 wk-RVHR, and was improved by icv…

Paraventricular nucleus corticotrophin releasing hormone contributes to sympathoexcitation via interaction with neurotransmitters in heart failure

It is suggested that CRH in the PVN modulates neurotransmitters and contributes to sympathoexcitation in rats with ischemia-induced HF.

Interaction between glutamate and GABA systems in the integration of sympathetic outflow by the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus.

Data indicate that glutamate, via NMDA receptors, excites the presympathetic neurons within the PVN and increases sympathetic outflow and this glutamate excitatory input is tonically inhibited by a GABA(A)-mediated mechanism.

GABA in the central amygdaloid nucleus modulates the electrolyte excretion and hormonal responses to blood volume expansion in rats.

The data suggest that CeA GABAergic mechanisms are involved in the control of ANP and OT secretion, as well as in sodium and water excretion in response to isotonic or hypertonic blood volume expansion in unanesthetized rats.

Hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus activation contributes to neurohumoral excitation in rats with heart failure

The findings suggest that the NF-κB mediates the cross-talk between RAS and PICs in the PVN in HF and modulates the neurotransmitters and contributes to sympathoexcitation in rats with heart failure.

Renin-angiotensin system inhibitors potentiate the anticonvulsant activity of valproate in the mouse pilocarpine-induced seizures model

It is concluded that RAAS inhibition combined to VPA treatment may hold a potential for the cure of pathologies such as epilepsy.

Mapping and signaling of neural pathways involved in the regulation of hydromineral homeostasis

The physiological control of body fluid homeostasis is evaluated in an integrated manner from the molecular aspects to the systemic and integrated responses.
