The peripheral mechanisms responsible for pressor response produced by microinjections of baclofen (GABA(B) agonist) into the nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) of conscious rats were studied. Bilateral microinjections of baclofen (10-1,000 pmol/100 nl) produced a dose-related increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate. The maximal response was observed after 15 min. Intravenous injection of prazosin decreased MAP to control levels. Subsequent treatment with Manning compound…
Effects of Stereotactic Introduction of Baclofen in the Medullary Cardiovascular Nuclei of Rats
TLDR
The specificities of the baclofen-induced effects are probably related to peculiarities ofThe functioning of GABAB receptors, the activation of which may mediate the effects of multiple neuronal mechanisms.
Angiotensin II enhances GABA(B) receptor-mediated responses and expression in nucleus tractus solitarii of rats.
TLDR
Results indicate that chronic ANG II infusion stimulates GABA( B) receptor expression and augments GABA(B) receptor-mediated responses in the NTS, which could contribute to the central nervous system actions of ANG II that result in dampening of baroreflexes and elevation in arterial BP.
Influence of Intraventricular Application of Baclofen on Arterial Blood Pressure and Neurotransmitter Concentrations in the Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus of Rats
TLDR
It is suggested that baclofen influences the secretion of neurotransmitters and amino acids involved in autonomic activities mediated by GABAB receptors.

TLDR
Overexpression of GBR in the NTS induced a chronic elevation in blood pressure and heart rate in the normotensive WKY rats and overexposure to AAV2-GBR1 resulted in a significant increase in GBR1 expression inThe NTS neurons.
Targeting angiotensin type 2 receptors located on pressor neurons in the nucleus of the solitary tract to relieve hypertension in mice.
TLDR
These studies unveil novel hindbrain circuits that maintain arterial blood pressure, and reveal a specific population of AT2R that can be engaged to alleviate hypertension.
Orally active vasopressin V1a receptor antagonist, SRX251, selectively blocks aggressive behavior
GABAergic contribution to the muscle mechanoreflex-mediated heart rate responses at the onset of exercise in humans.
TLDR
It is found that passive and voluntary cycling evokes similar increases in heart rate and that these responses were enhanced after diazepam administration, a benzodiazepine that enhances GABAA activity, suggesting that the GABAergic system may contribute to the muscle mechanoreflex-mediated vagal withdrawal at the onset of exercise in humans.

O efeito neuromodulatorio do oxido nitrico (NO) sobre a transmissao glutamatergica no NTS relacionado ao controle cardiovascular tem sido bastante investigado. A ativacao de receptores

TLDR
It is concluded that baclofen causes elevation of blood pressure in the nucleus tractus solitarii of conscious rats, and that this structure is a possible locus of action for systemically administered bacl ofen in producing hypertension.
Mechanisms of pressor and bradycardic responses to L-glutamate microinjected into the NTS of conscious rats.
TLDR
The data show that microinjection of L-Glu into the NTS of conscious rats produced pressor and bradycardic responses, which indicate that the activation of both pathways is mediated by excitatory amino acid receptors.
Nucleus tractus solitarius and control of blood pressure in chronic sinoaortic denervated rats.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that inhibition of the NTS has no effect on AP or plasma levels of VP in chronic SAD rats, suggesting neither the NTS nor afferents to the NTS supply a tonic inhibitory influence on AP after chronic baroreceptor denervation.
Vasopressin contributes to hypertension caused by nucleus tractus solitarius lesions.
TLDR
The hypertension produced by lesions of the NTS in ganglionic-blocked rats was completely abolished by administration of a vasopressin antagonist, and elevated plasma vasoppressin contributes to the hypertension caused by such lesions.

TLDR
The roles of vasopressin, the sympathoadrenal system, and the renin-angiotensin system in the production of hypertension after bilateral destruction of the nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) were examined in chloralose-anesthetized rats and results suggest that this form of hypertension is due to increased sympathoadenal activity and increased vasoppressin release into plasma and that the ren in-angiotsin system is not involved.
