Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) systems have evolved from futuristic visions of surgical pioneers to a safe and efficient tool in the therapy of treatment of cardiac disorders. There are many significant differences in the physiology between neonates and adult patients. There are currently very few congenital cardiac malformations that cannot be addressed effectively with surgical therapy.
