THE characteristic monosaccharide sugar spectrum for glycoproteins of animal origin has, until comparatively recently, been regarded as being limited to the two hexosamines, glucosamine and galactosamine; the neutral hexoses, galactose, mannose and occasionally glucose; and the methyl pentose, fucose.
