Carbenicillin (disodium a-carboxybenzylpenicillin; BRL 2064) is a new semisynthetic penicillin with a wide spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In particular, carbenicillin shows a certain level of activity against Pseudomonas pyocyanea (Pseudomonas aeruginosa), and the compound is also active against many strains of Proteus vulgaris, Proteus rettgeri, and Proteus morganii, which
Activity of Azlocillin and Mezlocillin Against Gram-Negative Organisms: Comparison with Other Penicillins
TLDR
Azlocillin and mezlocillin were twice as active as carbenicillin against Bacteroides fragilis, and these drugs showed a high degree of activity against Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Comparative in vitro activity of semisynthetic penicillins against Proteeae
TLDR
The in vitro susceptibilities of 181 isolates of precisely identified Proteeae species to five semisynthetic penicillins were determined with low and high inocula and Providencia stuartii was clearly distinguished by its greater resistance to the antibiotics tested.

SUSCEPTIBILITY TO CARBENICILLIN OF CLINICAL ISOLATES OF GRAM-NEGATIVE BACTERIA IN 1972 AND 1973
TLDR
Intraperitoneal intravenous administration of up to 20 g per day of CB-PC is recommended for the treatment of patients with serious infection of Ps.
Bacteriological, pharmacological, and clinical studies of carbenicillin.
TLDR
During in vitro studies, serum had no effect on the minimal inhibitory concentration of this drug, whereas increased inoculum size required greater concentrations for inhibition, and resistance was found to develop rapidly in vitro when Pseudomonas was employed.
Carbenicillin as Inhibitor of β-Lactamase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa
TLDR
The activity on carbenicillin of β-lactamases from strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from clinical specimens was investigated and activity on benzylpenicillin and cephaloridine was also studied.
