George Thomas Smith-Clarke (GTS-C) was born on 23 December 1884 in Bewdley. His mother, Harriet, born in 1851, was the daughter of George Thomas Smith, a brass founder (born 1825). She married Henry Clarke, an apprentice and a stonemason's son, so the family roots lay in the heart of the Industrial Revolution. Harriet's eldest son, George Thomas Clarke, added Smith to his name to relate himself to the original brass founding business. He went to school in Bewdley from the age of 5 to 13 years… Expand
