Introduction Capsicum pubescens Ruiz & Pav. probably originated in the mid-elevations of Bolivia (Eshbaugh 1975) and has been domesticated since around 6,000 B.C.E. (DeWitt 1999:240–242). The species was originally described by Ruiz and Pavon at the end of the eighteenth century from plants in Peru (Ruiz and Pavon 1798:30–31). Heiser (1987:25) noted that C. pubescens was the most common pepper among the Incas, just as it is today in Cuzco, the former capital of the Incan empire. Morphologically…
History and Distribution of Capsicum chinense in Indonesia
TLDR
Four species of the genus Capsicum, including C. chinense, are distributed in Indonesia, which suggests that Indonesia has more genetic resources and more potential to breed species of Capsicum than other countries in Southeast and East Asia.
Phytochemicals in native Peruvian Capsicum pubescens (Rocoto)
TLDR
The results indicate that C. pubescens is generally less diverse and exhibits a lower content of almost all analyzed traits when compared to 147 Peruvian chili pepper accessions belonging to the other four domesticated species.
Biodiversity of Food Species of the Solanaceae Family: A Preliminary Taxonomic Inventory of Subfamily Solanoideae
TLDR
A survey of the biodiversity, ethnobotany and taxonomy of subfamily Solanoideae was undertaken and is presented here as an inventory of food species of Solanaceae, one of the major plant families providing food species.

Geographical and Ecological Differences in Pepper Cultivation and Consumption in China
TLDR
This study analyzed detailed geospatial datasets and reviewed relevant policy papers and academic literature to propose sustainable management strategies for China's pepper industry and offer suggestions for aligning the continued development of pepper cultivation with the national objective of achieving an ecological civilization.
ECOLOGICAL NICHE OF SEMIDOMESTICATED POPULATIONS OF Capsicum pubescens RUIZ & PAV. BASED ON ACCESSIONS FROM VERACRUZ, MEXICO
TLDR
A model of potential geographic areas for Capsicum pubescens Ruiz & Pav adaptation is analyzed, aiming to detect the appropriate ecological niche conditions in Mexico, and to describe the relationships between the environment and the morphological characteristics of the fruit.

Use of Capsicum frutescens L. by the Indigenous Peoples of Taiwan and the Batanes Islands
TLDR
Among Taiwanese indigenous peoples, the distribution, frequency of use, and importance of C. frutescens were found to increase with decreasing latitude, which appears to have affected the local names of Capsicum and C.frutescens.

Capsicum: The genus Capsicum
TLDR
Capsicum has been used since ancient times not only as a traditional medicine but also as a natural colorant, and was used in the recent discovery of a "hot receptor," or pain sensor, in the human heart.
Linkage of Fruit Shape and Color Genes in Capsicum.
TLDR
A chromosome linkage was found between two immature-fruit color genes and a gene determining pepper fruit shape and the fruit shape difference between the two varieties tested was found to be due to a single gene difference.
Early evolution of chili peppers (Capsicum)
TLDR
The hypothesis suggests a major portion of the genus Capsicum arose in a nuclear area in south central Bolivia with subsequent migration into the Andes and lowland Amazonia accompanied by radiation and speciation.
