Abstract Capoeta mauricii n. sp. is described from the Lake Beyşehir drainage, in Central Anatolia, Turkey. It is distinguished from other Anatolian Capoeta by having the lips somewhat fleshy and lower lip with developed lateral lobes; a few irregular small black spots on the dorsal and lateral body, dorsal and caudal fins in individuals approximately smaller than 170 mm SL, and body, head and fins plain and without black spots in larger individuals (SL>200 mm); 80–87 total lateral line scales… Expand

Possible species-flock scenario for the evolution of the cyprinid genus Capoeta (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae) within late Neogene lake systems of the Armenian Highland

A species-flock scenario for the evolution and dispersal of the cyprinid genus Capoeta in a huge unrecognized palaeolake system in the present-day Armenian Highland is proposed. Expand
Molecular phylogeny of the genus Capoeta (Teleostei: Cyprinidae) in Anatolia, Turkey
TLDR
It is suggested that four undescribed Capoeta species may exist in Anatolia freshwater and were shaped under paleogeographic conditions such as Pleistocene climate changes in Quarternary period as well as tectonic uplift and faulting, which probably has not changed up to now. Expand

TLDR
It is argued that species in nature are Individuals and form Lineages, they cannot be de¢ned but can only be diagnosed in time and one resolution to the species and species concept issue is to view the concepts in a hierarchical manner of primary (theoretical) and secondary (operational) concepts.
