[Can xenobiotics accumulated in adipose tissue contribute to a carcinogenic risk?].

Abstract

Some contaminants and environmental pollutants influence the development of the adipose tissue as well as its inflammatory state. In addition, persistent organic pollutants, which can be carcinogenic, are stored in this tissue. This leads to a dual function of the adipose tissue: it has a protective function in case of acute exposure, but it also constitutes an internal, chronic and low level source of pollutants. These complex interactions between adipose tissue and environmental pollutants have implications in obesity that need to be further studied.
