The hourly and daily variation of calling behavior and sex pheromone production by the female black cutworm moth, Agrotis ypsilon (Rottemberg), were investigated. Both calling behavior and titers of five sex pheromone components showed distinct diel rhythms, and peak periods of calling and pheromone titer were synchronous. Females began to call on the first night after eclosion and called mainly during the second half of the scotophase. The percentage of females calling increased in 1 to 3-d…

Diel rhythms of sexual behavior and pheromone titers in Isoceras sibirica Alpheraky (Lepidoptera, Cossidae).
TLDR
The results showed that females began to call on the first night after eclosion and called mainly during the second half of scotophase, inferring that the I. sibirica mating system is organized around circadian control of mate calling and mating.
Circadian rhythm of calling behavior and sexual pheromone production and release of the female Zeuzera leuconotum Butler(Lepidoptera: Cossidae)
TLDR
There was a circadian rhythm in the production and release of sex pheromone by Z.leuconotum and this regulation was the same as that of calling, which meant that the calling behavior, sex phersomone production and released were synchronized.
Periodical and Age-Related Variation in Sexual Communication of the Legume Pod Borer, Maruca vitrata (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)
TLDR
This study indicated that there existed distinct periodical variations in female calling, titre of the primary sex pheromone component, and male responsiveness in Maruca vitrata during scotophase that were well synchronous and age-dependent.
Daily rhythmicity in the sexual behaviour of Monema flavescens (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae)
TLDR
There is a daily rhythm in the reproductive behaviour of M. flavescens and provides a better understanding of its sexual behaviour, according to a distinct diel periodicity in female calling, male responsiveness and mating behaviour.
Sex pheromone titre in the glands of Spodoptera litura females: circadian rhythm and the effects of age and mating
TLDR
The results suggest that the suppression of female calling behaviours by mating and male accessory gland fluids may significantly reduce the release of sex pheromones and thus result in higher sex phersomone titre in the PGs of mated females.
The Timing of Calling and Mating in Heterolocha jinyinhuaphaga and the Influence of Environmental Determinants
TLDR
It was found that 25°C was the most suitable temperature for calling and mating, whereas at higher or lower temperatures, the total calling percentage and the total mating percentage decreased, the onset time of calling was delayed, and mating duration decreased.
Temporal and age-related variations in calling and mating patterns of the Indian population of spotted pod borer, Maruca vitrata Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)
TLDR
Age dependant and distinct patterns in female calling, synchronous male responsiveness leading to mating in M. vitrata were revealed and could be utilized in various aspects of M. Vitrata semiochemical based research.
Day-night temperature differential, rather than mean temperature, determines age of sexual maturation in Straicosta albicosta (Noctuidae).
TLDR
The pre-calling period (PCP) was always several days post emergence, supporting the hypothesis that WCB is a migrant species and the duration of calling increased with female age, but unlike in other moths was not affected by the abiotic factors tested.
Dim Light During Scotophase Enhances Sexual Behavior of the Oriental Tobacco Budworm Helicoverpa assulta (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
TLDR
This study provides reliable background information for using sex pheromones in conjunction with light traps for integrated management of nocturnal moths.
Circadian rhythms of insect pheromone titer, calling, emission, and response: a review.
TLDR
The various circadian rhythms are discussed in relation to application of species-specific sex and aggregation pheromones for benign biological control and management of pest insects.

DIEL RHYTHMS OF CALLING BEHAVIOR AND SEX PHEROMONE PRODUCTION OF BEET ARMYWORM, SPODOPTERA EXIGUA (LEPIDOPTERA:NOCTUIDAE) *
TLDR
Both calling behavior and titers of 4 sex pheromone components showed distinct diel rhythms, and the two peak periods were synchronous; in comparison, the calling activity lasted shorter period of time with a longer peak time, whereas the production of the sex phers lasted throughout the whole scotophase and part of the photophase with a very short peak time.
Periodical and Age-related Variation in Chemical Communication System of Black Cutworm Moth, Agrotis ipsilon
TLDR
Periodical and age-related changes in sex pheromone signaling and response were studied in the black cutworm moth, Agrotis ipsilon, and male response to female phermone in a wind tunnel increased with age and time of the scotophase.
Diel rhythms of calling behavior and pheromone production of oriental tobacco budworm moth,Helicoverpa assulta (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
TLDR
Both calling behavior and titer of (Z)-9-hexadecenal (Z9-16: Al) showed distinct diel periodicity, and these two were synchronous, and there was a time lag of a few days between peak calling activity and maximum pheromone titer.
Sexual behavior of Holcocerus insularis and circadian rhythm of its sex pheromone production and release
TLDR
The results indicated that most of the moths became sexually mature after one day of emergence and the maximum of the sex pheromone in glands appeared about 1:00 on the second day after emergence, and the peak of its release occurred about 2:30.
Pheromone production in Sesamia nonagrioides: Diel periodicity and effect of age and mating
TLDR
The quantity of pheromone measured in mated females 24, 48 and 72 h after mating was significantly lower than that of virgin females of similar age and the effect of age and mating on the phersomone titre was studied.
Sex Pheromone Components of the Female Black Cutworm Moth in China: Identification and Field Trials
TLDR
The sex pheromone blend of a China strain of the black cutworm moth Agrotis ypsilon (Rottemberg) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was investigated and it was indicated that each single component of sex phersomone was non-effective and captured no males.
Changes in pheromone titer of oblique-banded leafroller,Choristoneura rosaceana, virgin females as a function of time of day, age, and temperature
TLDR
For any given age tested, the amount of each component produced during the period of maximal calling activity remained relatively similar at the two temperature regimes, however, as with the expression of calling behavior, pheromone production was initiated earlier at cooler than at warmer temperatures.
Age-specific mating activities of Mexican rice borers (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)
TLDR
Differences in female age seldom resulted in large differences in occurrence of mating on mating stations, but when differences occurred, younger females were more often mated than older females.
